Hi mine is still getting the same reocurring error every time and i've tried all of the stated tricks. Any other advice?

This still didnt work...i've tried so much

Graham K said...

if you are using a wireless ADSL router, ignore all the shit that othe r people tell you as they are just leading you on a wild goose chase.

to solve the problem is in 3 simple steps

1. Press reset on the front of your PC or laptop

2. Unplug your router and plug it back in before logging on

3. log on and start WLM and it will allow you to connect.

Unknown said...

Graham has the right result for me - router was slamming the door shut. If you have software admin then resetting your internet connection works, and is less harsh than powering off and on.

One thing most people dont know is that AVG 8.0 is a suite. It has a messenger protector. The steps to disable it are:

1) Open AVG
2)In the Overview, Double-click "Web Shield"
3)Towards the bottom, click the tab "Instant Messaging"
4) Unclick "Instant Messaging protection"

Your all done!

Try logging into Live now :D

I've got the same problem as the people a few posts ago, i use avg 8.0 free, which doesn't have a web shield. I've had this problem for a few days now and i've tried many different solutions, but i've ended up with no help. I thought oh well, i'll reinstall messenger 7.5. I couldn't sign in on multiple accounts. I tried Windows Messenger. The same thing. Trillian, the same. Pidgin the same.
Any help will be much appreciated.

For AVG Users !!!
The following additional steps to configure the AVG 8.0 software’s Web Shield component also helps in addressing the error.

1. Open the AVG User Interface.
2. Double-click on the Web Shield component.
3. Switch on the Instant Messaging tab.
4. Uncheck the Instant Messaging protection option.
5. Confirm changes by clicking the Save Changes button.

No error 8100030d !

Anonymous said...

I figured this out myself after 2 weeks without MSN. AVG doesn't yet recognise the new msn. You need to diable the msn instant messaging protection, under web shield in the advanced options or the web shield section.

Wish I'd read alexander nk's post before.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for that guys, I only installed AVG today (Avast was beginning to piss me off) and that was the problem, so cheers again.

I've seriously tried everything and it still doesn't work... I've done what the msn support thing told me to do = nothing... I've done what is to be done here = nothing... It's seriously upsetting since everyone else in my family has their ID functioning properly with the program but not mine... I seriously don't have any idea what's wrong... :/ I'm completely lost...

Anonymous said...

If you're using a firewall such as Zonealarm

1. Make sure all of Windows Live Messenger components are allowed to access the inet
2. For some CLOSING the Zonealarm program instead of mereling DISABLING it solves the problem, so see if that works for you. Ironically restarting Zonealarm sometimes seem to solve the problem. Go figure.

Anonymous said...

I appreciate the help, but it didn't work for me... I mean, it's my ID that refuses to work and when I log into hotmail and spaces it works fine... I seriously don't know what's wrong... :/ When I sign in on my other accounts they work fine... I can't believe that the ID I need the most won't work with the messenger... I just updated and it has been kicking me out frequently but logs in almost soon after, but ever since Friday night it's been the same so yeah I'm losing my nerve here pretty much... So yeah...

My dears...
if everything fails, try deleting the contacts cache folder.

Under XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

You'll find multiple folders there, delete them (the'll be automatically replaced) or move them somewhere else (the safe way)

Where
"Administrator" should be your login name. ;)

use Trillian till you get it fixed

Yes the AVG comments do work but if you want to let WLM work without showing the Web Shield being disabled just uncheck the MSN & ICQ boxes leaving the Web Shield Checked/Enabled and the same result is reached without having to look at the Red Exclamation Point in your AVG Icon :).

Anonymous said...

hi all, after a couple of days without msn working and constant googling, i've found the solution.

i'll save the talk for after, here it is:

go to regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > software > microsoft > windows live contacts > database

one of my accounts wasn't working but the other was, so i deleted the two files that were from the account that wasn't working (one should say shadow at the end of the file name)

after deleting those, try signing in. it should work!

i read somewhere, maybe on here, that you have to delete the contact info in the microsoft files accessed via my computer. tried that and it didn't work. then i read somewhere else about deleting the policies folder in regedit and i couldn't find that, because the version they were talking about was from like, 2005. sooo add two and two and i came up with the above.

you're welcome :P

Anonymous said...

aww thank you so much KRDZA it did work! (:

This is error is making me so pissed.
I'm using the oldest version of msn to go onto my email because for some reason my email doesnt work on the new msn, but only on my computer.
I dont have Zone Alarm, i've tried everything.
I've deleted everything on my laptop that has anything to do with MSN Messenger and yet it still says that I have MSN Messenger when i try to re-download it.

DiscoMike said...

Thanks - it works!

For VISTA users, close Live Messenger first, click on the Sttart menu button on the bottom left hand side of the screen, in the "start search" box type "regedit" without the quotation marks. On the left hand side of the screen, open up these folders:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > software > microsoft > windows live contacts > database

Then right-click and delete the database folder. Click the X in the top right corner to close the program (the changes are saved automatically) and then start-up Live Messenger and it should work!

i had the same problem, after contactin live support they gave me next solution, which really helpful with this trouble

1. Remove Windows Live Messenger from the computer.

a. In the notification area, right-click the Windows Live Messenger icon, and then click Sign Out.

b. Click Start, type appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box and then press ENTER.

c. In the list of currently installed programs, select Windows Live Essentials, and then click Uninstall/Change

4. Select Uninstall, click Continue.

5. Put a checkmark for Windows Live Messenger and click Continue.

2. Remove the temporary files and folders from the computer:

a. Click Start, type cleanmgr in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

b. In the Disk Cleanup options window, click My Files only.

c. On the Disk Cleanup tab, make sure that only the following options are selected:

. Downloaded Program Files

. Temporary Internet Files

. Temporary files

. Hibernation File Cleaner

. Setup Log Files

. Recycle Bin

. Thumbnails

d. Confirm deletion of the files, and then run the Disk Cleanup utility.

3. Delete Messenger related cache files

b. Click Start, type %userprofile% in the Start Search box and then press ENTER. Delete the Contacts folder.

OH LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!After 4days I could finally sign in again, thank u guys so much, the regedit thing worked out perfectly, after tryin like a billion ways to fix my msn..god bless u!!!

Anonymous said...

The method suggested Matt up the thread worked for me!

here it is: hi all, after a couple of days without msn working and constant googling, i've found the solution.

i'll save the talk for after, here it is:

go to regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > software > microsoft > windows live contacts > database

one of my accounts wasn't working but the other was, so i deleted the two files that were from the account that wasn't working (one should say shadow at the end of the file name)

after deleting those, try signing in. it should work!

i read somewhere, maybe on here, that you have to delete the contact info in the microsoft files accessed via my computer. tried that and it didn't work. then i read somewhere else about deleting the policies folder in regedit and i couldn't find that, because the version they were talking about was from like, 2005. sooo add two and two and i came up with the above.

you're welcome :P

I have been reading this page for the past 3 hours trying to figure out why i was the unlucky one and nothing was working. Uninstalled all anti viruses and firewall softwares. I had deleted all the caches but it wasnt working then i deleted all my chat logs. IT WORKED.
go to :
Documents > Recieved files > History > Your email account
Delete all the folders and everything will work :D
Good luck. dont lose hope. its achievable
IF nothing works. Format your computer reinstall windows.

hi

i have been reading this forum but nothing seems to solve my problem.

right now, using my IBM thinkpad T61 running windows XP SP2, I am able to log onto windows live messenger in the office: no problems there. However, when i am back home, i cannot log into my windows live messenger while other housemates using the same wireless connection are able to do so and it seems i am the only one with this problem. i tried to log on using another hotmail account on my laptop and i can do so successfully. It is only this primarily account that i am having problems with. it is strange since no one else in the house has this problem and i can log into this account in the office with no problems at all too. the error msg i received is 8100030d as well. thanks for any info at all.

missy said...

After analyzing the problem i figured out that primarly i got it when i played windows media player plug in on wLM which eats up my cache so all you have to do bluefishy is delete all cookies/caches/logs from that account and it will work. :D

Didn't work for me. I have done everything suggested in the blog to date including removal/reinstallation but nothing works. Have to assume the new version of messenger is a dud and that Microsoft is not interested in supporting it.

I use Windows Live Messenger 8.5 on a Vista Ultimate box, and I ...
- don't use ZoneAlarm
- checked my clock and it is correct
- followed the steps mentioned above
- tried to register those DLLs but initpki.dll failed, it says it wasn't found in my system.

Please, let me know what I have to do to solve this problem.

PS. When I connect to a different MSN account it works, the problem is somehow related to one specific account.

Regards,
Marcio Lima

MATT CAPLIN YOU ARE A SAVIOUR.

EVERYONE ELSE IS DAMN WRONG.

I tried EVERYTHING listed above, and after 3 hours of scouring this blog came across Matt's simple suggestion.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO STILL CAN'T GET YOUR MSN TO WORK. TRY THIS:

"go to regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > software > microsoft > windows live contacts > database

one of my accounts wasn't working but the other was, so i deleted the two files that were from the account that wasn't working (one should say shadow at the end of the file name)

after deleting those, try signing in. it should work!"

THANKYOU MATT!!!

8100030d Solved!

YES. Just search Matt Caplin on this page and follow his simple direction!

I tried everything and nothing worked. This was the only attempt that worked! See for yourself.

Thanks Matt!

3)Towards the bottom, click the tab "Instant Messaging"
4) Unclick "Instant Messaging protection"

tis works for me... many many thanks!!
but... if i do tis, is it means if there's any virus comes from WLM, won't detected and will hack my computer?
