I have Windows Live Messenger on Windows XP (SP2). I can receive messages from a contact, but when I reply - after a few key strokes it locks up and I have to close and start a new message with the user. If I start the message and leave it up and they reply, I have no problem responding. It only happens when I receive a message from a user and reply. Its driving me nuts!

Unfortunately this is a known WML bug. So far we can't do anything about it. You have to wait till they release new Windows Live Messenger version. If we find a way to fix this annoyance we will post it.

Start up MSN, and wait for a troubleshoot screen, press 'repair' and let it do what it does.
Tell me what you get. Something with key the ports right?

Hello, this problem has been goign on for about 3 weeeks. On 8.1 and now 8.5. Messenger will sign in and run fine, however it will not save information, it will save options, but not the backgrounds. I will set them and the default, however they will be goen the next time i sign in. Even the ones that coem with the messenger wont stick. even more it will nto remember my email or password when i restart my computer. I have no idea why but it wont on neither versions. I did find that a registry key is quite a nuisance however when i tryed to delete it it wasnt there! It also aparrantly holds data on settigns and stuff like that. the key is Hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\msnmessenger\policies. Its not there and i cant find a way to put it there. I even deleted the whoel msnmessenger key and reinstalled 8.5, still not there. I even reinstalled XP 2 times and it doesnt work. I need help on these three areas. Please and thank you.

I have been having a problem with MSN for a while now. I have noticed that when talking to my friends, our conversations tend to be a bit inconsistent. I came up witha system of Numbering our comments to each other, ie:

Person 1
1. Hi

Person 1
2. How's it going?

Person 2
1. Hey, not bad you?

It didnt take long to realize that there were gaps in the numbers and found out that almost 1/4 of what we type to each other is not actually making it to the other person in the conversation. So far we have been getting around this by asking them to resend the missing comments, ie:

(on Person 1's screen)

Person 1
13. So what did you think of the movie last night?

Person 2
17. Hmm, I guess it was okay...

Person 2
19. But other than that it was not bad.

Person 1
14. Hmm i am missing comment 18, MSN didn't send that one.

So far this has been working, but it is incredibly frustrating to keep having to ask for parts to be resent and then trying to read it all in the proper order. Also in conversations with 3 or more ppl, some messages sent can be seen by some of the participants but not the others, and when this happens its appears there is no pattern as to who sees who's messages.

To my knowledge most of my friends have high speed connections and the majority of them are from my IT class in College so the home network settings are not an issue, that i am sure of. I am not sure if that helps narrow down the problem at all but i figured it would be worth mentioning.

this problem just started just a bit back...
whenever WLM is running, it randomly freezes my mouse, then i hit control+alt+delete. then when i get back to the desktop, WLM quickly opens then closes conversation windows even if im not talking to anyone. after that, when i try to open a conversation window with someone, nothing comes up, although if you hit alt+tab, you can switch to the conversation window. but still nothing opens up. the only way i have figured out to temperaraly solve the problem is to completely exit WLM, and open it again.

I also tried updating WLM to the beta version, with the same problem. I ended up rolling it back to 8.1.

If anyone has any ideas, that would be much appriciated.

Hi,

I use Messenger Live on Vista, lately it's been acting very weird. I'll be Iming someone, I will click send and this message comes up:

The following message could not be delivered to all recipients

I will re-type the message and sometimes it still will not let me, so I cannot IM that person anymore. What makes it even more awkward is that it only does it when I'm IMing other msn users. Some days are fine and I can IM normally, but it's been seriously bad, not to mention very annoying, please help!

Yeah this is pissing me off like mad. I had an important meeting scheduled with a friend today (after installing a new CPU in my computer) and my MSN no longer worked. It gave me some absolute garbage about not being able to connect, so I did the connection test, and it said "Windoze Live Messenger successfully connected" or whatever it's supposed to say. Yeah, it successfully connected during the test but it won't connect when I sign in? What kind of bull is that..

so I was twenty minutes late and had to use the just-as-absolute-garbage web messenger.

Well, my problem still not fixed, I figured it'd probably work if I re-downloaded and installed again, which I did, and it installed a very different-looking version (I suppose the newest one, naturally). However, same error... only it takes about ten times longer to load up. Woo, making progress.. not.

Here's an interesting one; it gives me the Error Code 80080005. A Google search suggests nothing but COM+ related Windoze OS errors with that code...?

Yes I have a working internet connection (well gee, really, LOL) and everything else connects just fine. But, leave it to Micro$oft to be the one piece of software that doesn't work on the entire machine.

So, why am I getting this seemingly-obscure error? And furthermore, why did I start getting it immediately after upgrading to a new CPU? I had to reset the BIOS in my computer during installation... is something in my BIOS disabling MSN? And nothing else?

Stupid stupid problem, but its bizarrity is the whole problem.

Hey. I have Windows Live Messenger but I am not sure what version it is (Not the latest one though. I'ts the one with messages sent normally and not in dot points whenever you press enter). I saw something cool on youtube (something like a cool script) and thought I might check it out. I downloaded the file at http://www.msgdiscovery.com and i downloaded everything. It also told me to download something else so that I could run it. I was still signed into Windows Live Messenger, It told me to sign off so then I clicked 'yes'. I tried opening my MSN while the program that I had just downloaded was running and whenever I type my password and click the 'Sign in' button, the window closes by itself and appears on my toolbar then disappears 5 seconds later. I don't know where it went. So then I click on the MSN button again and this repeats. I then deleted the two programs and restarted my computer and this problem still occurs. I can't sign in. ): What should i do? Should i delete it and download MSN again? Help!

Setting up SMS on an International Phone?

Hi,

I am in a long distance relationship (I live in United States and my girlfriend lives in Amsterdam). I recently discovered that you can send SMS to anyone's cellphone through WLM. So, I wanted to try it out. I first tested it out on a few of my friends who also live in America and they work great!

I have her mobile number and she and I have exchanged numbers via www.talkster.com--a website that allows users to convert their numbers into a number in their local area to make free international calls (where assuming there are no fees).

Anywa, I tried adding her number to her contact info through my WLM contacts list and I receive the following error message:

"The mobile device information you entered is not valid to send text messages".

From a regular phone in america, the way to dial directly to the phone would be:

011 31 20 6xxx xxxxx....but thru WLM i do not know how to set this up, as I have been informed that all I must do is select the country (Netherlands 31), then simply place the number as-is (without the city's area code (20) and the rest of the number.

Does the fact that "the device information is not valid..." mean that she will have to go onto Windows Live website and validate her phone number in order to receive texts from me on WLM? I want to surprise her by being able to text her so she knows I can actually *do* it (as many SMS-based websites support sending to the Netherlands but do not actually deliver the SMS. The only other option is to add her number by logging into her profile (which is an invasion of privacy if I don't get her permission)

Can you tell me for sure if WLM even supports input of international numbers to send SMS to? I do not think so, since I was able to send an SMS to a contact's cellphone in the UK and I do not even have her number. and my US friends have phones but neither of them are unable to use internet.

Whenever I try and sign in on Windows live with any of my accounts the same thing comes up all the time and if I leave it, I just sign in for 5 minutes until it says there was a problem. This has only just recently happened and before the message would come up but I was still able to sign in. Now I can't sign in at all.

Hi, I had a look at your website, but it didn't give me the help I need. A few
months ago I installed Windows Live Messenger 9.1 but then I uninstalled it. Now I
want it again so I went to the normal installation, waited for it to load until it
says 'Choose the programs you want to install'. Below that, there is a list of all
these programs & It says that I already have all those programs installed on my
laptop. There are no tabs like 'Go Back' or 'Next' that you would normally see in
this installation, the only tab there is, is the 'Close' tab.

I really want to solve this problem. By the way, I also double-checked if maybe I
accidently still have any Windows Live Program on my laptop by going to Control
Panel, to add or remove programs but I do not have anything relating to this
installation. I tried downloading it over and over again but it just seems to be the
same problem. I also sent a screenshot to provide a better description. I hope it
helps. And I also hope that maybe if you have any idea of what I could do, Thankyou

I have windows live messenger on windows 7. I have the most recent version of it as well. Every time I try to sign in a message pops up saying the windows live ID or password i have entered is incorrect, below it the error code: 80048823. I've looked everywhere to find a fix, but can't. I can't change my password either because I can't access my e-mail and I don't know my answer to my secret question (who does?). Anyways, its complicating things. Help much appreciated.

Since I was "forced" to upgrade my version of msn a few weeks ago I have lost names on my Contact List --- now mostly e-mail addresses appear and I have lost the View History section with some of my closest contacts. Going forward the conversation disappears after it is concluded and there is no history of it. What's going on here?

My Windows Live Messenger will not let me sign in and when I troubleshoot it's telling me that wireless is the problem. However, my internet is working completely fine. Any suggestions?

Hi,

this is a great site.

I have strange problem with latest messenger that I have not seen before.

Basically my contacts list is different on different computers I log on to.

Somehow the contacts List has been different and I cannot talk to all my friends on a single installation.

How do I make all my contacts come back in a single place?
