I have Windows Live Messenger on Windows XP (SP2). I can receive messages from a contact, but when I reply - after a few key strokes it locks up and I have to close and start a new message with the user. If I start the message and leave it up and they reply, I have no problem responding. It only happens when I receive a message from a user and reply. Its driving me nuts!

Unfortunately this is a known WML bug. So far we can't do anything about it. You have to wait till they release new Windows Live Messenger version. If we find a way to fix this annoyance we will post it.

Start up MSN, and wait for a troubleshoot screen, press 'repair' and let it do what it does.
Tell me what you get. Something with key the ports right?

Hello, this problem has been goign on for about 3 weeeks. On 8.1 and now 8.5. Messenger will sign in and run fine, however it will not save information, it will save options, but not the backgrounds. I will set them and the default, however they will be goen the next time i sign in. Even the ones that coem with the messenger wont stick. even more it will nto remember my email or password when i restart my computer. I have no idea why but it wont on neither versions. I did find that a registry key is quite a nuisance however when i tryed to delete it it wasnt there! It also aparrantly holds data on settigns and stuff like that. the key is Hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\msnmessenger\policies. Its not there and i cant find a way to put it there. I even deleted the whoel msnmessenger key and reinstalled 8.5, still not there. I even reinstalled XP 2 times and it doesnt work. I need help on these three areas. Please and thank you.

I have been having a problem with MSN for a while now. I have noticed that when talking to my friends, our conversations tend to be a bit inconsistent. I came up witha system of Numbering our comments to each other, ie:

Person 1
1. Hi

Person 1
2. How's it going?

Person 2
1. Hey, not bad you?

It didnt take long to realize that there were gaps in the numbers and found out that almost 1/4 of what we type to each other is not actually making it to the other person in the conversation. So far we have been getting around this by asking them to resend the missing comments, ie:

(on Person 1's screen)

Person 1
13. So what did you think of the movie last night?

Person 2
17. Hmm, I guess it was okay...

Person 2
19. But other than that it was not bad.

Person 1
14. Hmm i am missing comment 18, MSN didn't send that one.

So far this has been working, but it is incredibly frustrating to keep having to ask for parts to be resent and then trying to read it all in the proper order. Also in conversations with 3 or more ppl, some messages sent can be seen by some of the participants but not the others, and when this happens its appears there is no pattern as to who sees who's messages.

To my knowledge most of my friends have high speed connections and the majority of them are from my IT class in College so the home network settings are not an issue, that i am sure of. I am not sure if that helps narrow down the problem at all but i figured it would be worth mentioning.

this problem just started just a bit back...
whenever WLM is running, it randomly freezes my mouse, then i hit control+alt+delete. then when i get back to the desktop, WLM quickly opens then closes conversation windows even if im not talking to anyone. after that, when i try to open a conversation window with someone, nothing comes up, although if you hit alt+tab, you can switch to the conversation window. but still nothing opens up. the only way i have figured out to temperaraly solve the problem is to completely exit WLM, and open it again.

I also tried updating WLM to the beta version, with the same problem. I ended up rolling it back to 8.1.

If anyone has any ideas, that would be much appriciated.

Does anyone have experience of mobile broadband coverage in Cornwall? I travel down their regularly and am thinking about signing up with a mobile broadband provider but have heard coverage can be poor in some rural areas. I’ve been looking at various different mobile broadband providers here: http://www.broadband-expert.co.uk/broadband/mobile and am leaning towards Vodafone.

Any advice would be great. I don’t want to sign up and find I’m paying for a product that doesn’t work!
