argh. i'm pissed. i've tried a lot of things but my windows still doesnt work. still the Error: 800401f3. and Regsvr Msxml3.dll stuff doesnt work. it hasnt been working for half a year.

emiko said...

guys, my msn messneger hasn't been working, and I saw this solution somewhere else, marvin miller says:A lot of people have been experiencing problems with slow typing on the MSN Messenger sign-in screen as well as increased CPU usage atributed to msnmsgr.exe For some reason Acer Aspire notebook users seem to be particularly affected by this but it's by no means limited to them - it's an equal opportunity problem causer laugh.gif

Most often this is described as seeing the message service unavailable & experiencing slow keyboard response when typing.

If you are running Windows XP try the following steps;

Go to a DOS prompt and type in the following OR go to Start -> Run and then copy and paste each line below hitting enter after each one.

regsvr32 Dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 Msxml3.dll /s

What these statements do is re-register the cryptographic files for Windows XP. Usually blown encryption is an effect caused by a virus or SpyWare infection.

thank god my windows messenger works, but i really need my msn, i dont know how to get it to work. I've never encountered this problem before.

Hello ,

Dear support ,

I cannot log in i am getting an error ( 800401f3 )
I dont have Firewall
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p125/ftoon/problema.jpg

I searched on google.com and i found this solution :
I must go to DOS and write this
regsvr32 Dssenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll /s
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll /s
regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s
regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll /s
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll /s
regsvr32 Msxml3.dll /s

and pressing Enter between each one
when i finished i tried them all without /s all was success expect the lastone "Msxml3.dll" wich failed .
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2323/problemaaaaaaaatc7.jpg

i searched on the google for "Msxm13.dll" , i found it and i download it and paste it on System32 .
But it didn't help , but the error code changed to " 80048883"

i seaeched again on the google for this error and i discovered that i must download a file called "ppcrlconfig.dll" and place it in :
C:\Documents and Settings\[Windows Username]\Application Data\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\

i did it and i uninstalled Windows Live Messenger and downloaded msn 7.5 and the error code now is the old one " 800401f3" .
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p125/ftoon/1-3.jpg

I even tried "sfc /scannow" and installed 'msxml3.msi'
But it didn't change anything.

And now i gave up!
the problem is just with this account if i log into another user it works ok .

Looking forward to hearing from you and please see the pictures that i put with the letter for more explain .

thank you .

I have the same problem (err:800401f3), I've done the regsvr32 thing, but the file MSXML3.dll is the only one that hasn't registered, although after that error changes to err:80004005. I've downloaded the MsXML3.msi and installed, but with no luck. I've also tried the SubInACL, but it crashes my computer :(
help... :(

Anonymous said...

Hi, PROBLEM is that reset of permitions works ONLY 4 user who runs this reset.cmd script with SubInAcl.exe commands. When I run it under administrator MSN works only under administrator. Also ICQ. When I run under another user (also in Administrators group) MSN works correctly ONLY under this user. I've got feeling we are near the right solution...

I had similar problems. I tried the dos prompt with no luck then I ran the second option and it worked. I somehow got a nasty virus which blocked access and had to reset the codes. Here is the one I used

1. Download and install SubInACL (Microsoft Official Page)

2. Create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource
Kits\Tools folder.

3. Edit the reset.cmd file with the following content.

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

4. Enter into CMD prompt.

5. Enter the following commands one at a time and click Enter.

cd
cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
reset.cmd

6. After a few minutes by processing subinacl, the permission will be reset.

Step 6 took about 5 minutes or so, but it worked and I'm back in business.

Thanks

At last it works. I have been working on this for hours.

Ignore all other posts on this issue this is the only one that worked for me. It may be complicated but if you follow the instructions it really does work.

Anonymous said...

When you say " copy and paste each line below hitting after each one" What do you mean by hitting? I know it may sound like a dumb question but i am really confused!

Anonymous said...

it works great !
It took me more than 5 min. to fix up my registry permission.
Thanks,

Anonymous said...

Yes it works! I was quite annoyed at the fact that detailed instructions were not given >=(...So here they are:

1) Download:

Download this file from Microsoft:

link = http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E8BA3E56-D8FE-4A91-93CF-ED6985E3927B&displaylang=en

2) Creation of File:

Open up your notepad application and copy the following into it:

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

Now save it in the folder

C:\

Program Files

Windows Resource Kits

Tools

Note: When saving it, save it as "reset.cmd" and remember to select
"All Files" in Save as file type.

3) Open up your command prompt:

- cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" [Enter]

- reset.cmd [Enter]

You will now see your command prompt screen filling with information [Just like the matrix =)]

Don't Panic! You are on the right path

4) Wait a while [for it to stop] and you are done!

5) Open up MSN Messenger!

I am trying to fix my 800401f3 error by following the instructions on this blog. It does not seem to be working. When typing "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" do I type that exactly as is or something different. I am not familiar with use cmd prompt. It just keeps telling me that what I type in is not recognized as an internal or external command . . .

My problem was the When I typed my address into the username bar it would type really slowly and eventually I got my info in the password and username but it wouldn't log on because of error 800401f3.

This really works

Reset the entire registry permissions to defaults
Reset the entire registry permissions to defaults

Here is the detailed instruction on resetting the permissions for the whole registry. This was posted by Ken Zhao of Microsoft.

1. Download and install SubInACL (Microsoft Official Page)
(you can type SubInACL in google and download it)

2. Create a notepad file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource
Kits\Tools folder. with the following in its content:

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

4. Enter into CMD prompt.

5. Enter the following commands one at a time and click Enter.

cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" (Press enter)

reset.cmd (Press enter)

6. After a few minutes by processing subinacl, the permission will be reset. Dont shut down he PC because the command bar starts doing the matrix because it is actually fixing ur PC

Anonymous said...

ok im on step four. But what the heck is "CMD Prompt"? please reply

Anonymous said...

CMD Prompt = Command Prompt (Start > Run > cmd)

Ive been on countless pages investigating this fault, and noticed that SOME people are able to sort it by re-registering the dll files.

But the REST of us, cant register the msxml3.dll file! Not sure what the big deal is with this file, but its the reason why no ones msn works. Anyway, im trying the resetting of the registry permissions, its taking forever, got the great red box at the top and its running... fingers crossed!

If you have the problem of the SubInACL fix only working on the one user like I did, here is the solution!! - - >

Add this line to your reset.cmd file

subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f

Now I can use MSN Mess on all users!

(I got this last line from http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/solving-setup-errors-by-using-the-subinacl-tool-to-repair-file-and-registry-permissions.aspx

Good luck

Anonymous said...

So, how long do you wait? the red line matrix thing has already came up twice

Anonymous said...

Dont do that SubInACL thing completely messed up my PC

Anonymous said...

It works guys, if you're not complete noob, read this whole blog here, somewhere in the middle part, a guy posted detailed info on what the microsoft guy talked about. It took about 10 minutes with that "matrix" part, lol, but in the end it stopped, and I ran MSN, it told me to run it again for some reason, so I did, and it works same as before now.

Anonymous said...

OMG!IT WORKED!
it's been a DAY!a whole dayyy
first it didn't work..i tried so many things--i was thinking..why do i have to be one of those people who can't solve this problem?
i followed what peter said (ty), even if at first i didn't know how to create the new file (if u have the same problem look here-> http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx)
in the end i finally got to register that DAMN MSXML3.DLL!!!
i'll tell you..i actually didn't try if msn works again...but i'm just so happy that i registered it XD!
i guess it's over now *dances*

everything succeeded except for the last one, the oldest version of msn works but none of the newer versions
msn works fine on my dads XP account but no one elses, it all started when we re downloaded Norton because something was wrong with it..
I'm pretty sure its something with Norton because it happened ever since norton was re downloaded on both the laptop and the computer which sucks because before we re downloaded Norton which we legally bought it worked fine on the laptop, it didnt work on the computer buh after we did, it was really messed. (N)

if anyone can help, thanks =)

If you get this error code, try typing this into the run box and it should fail: REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll This happens to me, so I went onto another account on my computer (in which messenger works) and typed REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll into the Run box and it says suceeded. We are both administrators and I have checked to make sure his administrative settings are exactly the same. The only difference is his account was created before mine and might be the original. Note that I only just got msn working on his desktop, his desktop came up with a different error code which i soon fixed.

i can suggest backing up all your data, and formatting your hard drive.
make sure you have a windows installation CD and all your drivers for your hardware before doing this.

i tried all methods for this problem, and formatting is my last resort.

Anonymous said...

Yes it does work!!!!!!
A suggestion ..
Clean out your computer, with disk cleaner or any other anti-virus program.
Then try the method, it really works!!!!! :-)
Thanks who ever posted it :)

I had similar problems. I tried the dos prompt with no luck then I ran the second option and it worked. I somehow got a nasty virus which blocked access and had to reset the codes. Here is the one I used

1. Download and install SubInACL (Microsoft Official Page)

2. Create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource
Kits\Tools folder.

3. Edit the reset.cmd file with the following content.

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

4. Enter into CMD prompt.

5. Enter the following commands one at a time and click Enter.

cd
cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
reset.cmd

6. After a few minutes by processing subinacl, the permission will be reset.

Step 6 took about 5 minutes or so, but it worked and I'm back in business.

Thanks

in step 5 i typed in cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" but then it said, it couldnt find "cd"

and then after that i tried typing in reset.cmd and then it happens again omg..

i've done step 1-4 all clearly but this piece of shit step 5 doesnt even help

and please people...next time give clear instructions

the admin that posted these instructions first? he did a horrible job

he typed in "Create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource
Kits\Tools folder."

ok first of all he said file which meant stuff putting into that file but we never knew that we had to fuking create a NOTEPAD

SECOND OF ALL was that he said "enter into CMD prompt"
ok in this part, he could of least said
"open cmd prompt"

and also i have another reason that he should of said that

because people dont know what the fuking hell CMD PROMPT IS

next time PUT A FREAKING EXAMPLE SO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT IT MEANS

E.G START > RUN = CMD PROMPT

UR A HORRIBLE ADMIN

i still need help on step 5 =)

Trip Machina said...

Regarding STEP #5 originally posted by admin, here's how to do it with 100% success rate!

Go to START > RUN
***Type in cmd and press ENTER

---The MS-DOS command prompt should appear.

***Next, type CD C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools and press ENTER.

---That should send you directly to the appropriate directory.

***Finally, type reset.cmd and press ENTER.

---The "matrix" process should begin...all you have to do now is wait for it to completely stop processing, which can take a while--maybe 10 minutes.

***After that, close out the MS-DOS prompt and start up MSN/Live Messenger...you will get a message saying something along the lines of 'a critical problem has been fixed or updated'. When you start MSN/Live Messenger a 2nd time, then it should work.....the 800401f3 problem should be gone immediately.

I don't know why the hell they said to use "cd C:\blahblah" in the RUN prompt...that's incorrect; you can't just change directory (MS-DOS command) in the RUN prompt, silly. Trust me, I'm a programmer. =P
